How Does Blogging Help Brand My Coaching Business?

A blog, or web log, is an online diary that people use for all kinds of reasons. Some people use them for hobby purposes – to espouse their opinions about important world events. But as a Coach, Counselor or Consultant, you can get started by using a free, simple blog to help brand your business and drives targeted traffic to your Coaching services.

Blogging is easy to do and can be addictive once you get started. The first thing you need to do is to go to a site like www.Blogger.com and register for a free account. Then you will give your blog a name. You will want to use relevant keywords for your particular area of coaching, counseling or consultancy in the title. You will also want to try to make sure it evokes a sense of curiosity among web surfers who literally stumble upon your blog.

With Blogger the next step is to choose a template from the many they offer which reflects you and your Coach, Counselor or Consultant business. You can then start branding your business at your blog spot. To do this, you have to create daily or weekly posts to your blog that discuss coaching, counseling or the particular area of consultancy that you are involved in with you as an authority figure.

You want to allow comments from your readers because that feedback can help drive your business to a higher level. You’ll know what the customer wants, so you can provide it to them.

Blogs are supposed to have personality. Obviously you will not want to post inappropriate pictures of yourself or write your deepest, darkest thoughts. However, what it does mean reaching out to the online community and letting others get to know you on a personal level – as more than just a business name.

You want to be sure you ping your blog to the many ping sites, such as www.pingomatic.com because then other sites are notified each and every time you update your blog and provide fresh content. To do that you just go to the site and enter some short details about your blog and then select the services that you want to ping.

If you want to you can create multiple blogs each focusing on a different aspect of the services you offer. So for instance you could have different blogs which focus on “Executive Coaching,” “Business Coaching,” “Small Business Coaching” and so on. Just make sure you don’t overreach yourself and find that you are spending more time posting to your blogs than you realistically afford. However, each of your blogs should be aimed at directing traffic to your main Coaching, Consultancy or Counseling site and creating a buzz about your services.
As a blogger, you instantly command a certain amount of respect from fellow bloggers who have a penchant for seeing what others are doing on the ‘net.

A word of caution! Before you start filling your blog with nothing but blatant advertising, make sure you understand the purpose of a blog. Blogs are an integral part of what has become known as Web 2.0 marketing, which is all about the socialization that takes place in blogging communities.

So very soon you will be embarking on your own path to become a part of the blogosphere – the world of blogs as a whole. Once you start to become comfortable you may want to think about having your own blog which you host on your own domain so that you don’t have to keep logging into the blogging site – you simply update your posts and ping directly from your website. It’s also a great way of enhancing your reputation with potential clients who see that you have moved beyond using free services. That’s something that we will be covering in more detail with guidance and videos at The Coach Today.
